Article : Mica Exchange 2012: Cementing Growth

Date: Friday 23rd March, 2012

Mica Members, Suppliers & Staff came together in Bristol last month for a ‘bigger & better’ Second Annual Mica Exchange.

Feedback from the event was positively glowing, again more than three quarters of the Members & Suppliers attending rated the event overall as ‘Excellent’, with every other attendee rating it as Good. As is traditional, Members started the weekend with the Annual Members Only Dinner on the Saturday evening, a chance to catch up and comparenotes on the last twelve months.

Mr. David Hodkinson, Gardners Mica Local (Penwortham, Preston) “An event not to be missed!”

The traditional ‘Dianne’ quiz was this year ‘Sweet Connundrums’ and Tom from Flying Dutchman and Ian Haslam from St. Annes Mica Hardware shared the spoils, we hope they both have very sweet teeth!

Bright and early next morning, the Mica DIY AGM unanimously approved the accounts for 2011, which showed continuing growth, building on the profit in 2010.

Mr. Paul Walker, Walkers Mica Hardware (Dunoon, Argyll) “Well worth the trip!\"

This was followed by a presentation of the new member websites by Michael Ball, Marketing Manager, who talked through the brand new Member and Mica HQ sites, and showed some of the new features of the site in action. See page 3 for more Website news. A short member forum followed on before the main part of the day began.

Ruth Green, Tildenet Group: “Just to say ‘Thanks’ to your team for a really good networking day. I have attended various supplier functions over the years and I can genuinely advise that I thought yesterday was the best organised, for both supplier and customer.”

The Supplier Exchange – which is a form of slow speed-dating allowing members and suppliers to sit down together for booked appointments throughout the day – was repeated following the success of the inaugural event last year, and indeed was again oversubscribed forcing us to limit supplier attendee numbers. Members numbers were also up on 2011. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended for showing their support for the group.

Mrs. Shirley Haslam, St. Annes Mica Hardware (St. Annes / Lytham, Lancashire) “Very well planned out – excellent format”

Following feedback, next year we plan to slightly shorten the length of the day as the one negative we had was that you could have ‘too much of a good thing’ !

The Exchange was followed in the evening by the Annual Mica Gala Dinner, including Member & Supplier Awards.

We would like to thank this years main event sponsor Akzo Nobel Group for its support to the Mica membership.
