Article : Mainlys Mica Celebrate Second Store Opening

Date: Thursday 19th April, 2012

Since opening their first hardware store after many years of market and online trading in June 2010, owners of Mainlys of Devizes Mica, Colin & Clare Henrich have been planning their next move.

The success of their first Mica store; which was conceived in a conversation between the Henrich’s and Mica Retailer Development Manager Robin Page at the 2010 Totally DIY show, & now includes a 2011 Silver Hardware Retailer of the Year Award has spurred them on to add a second branch.

After investigations by Colin & Robin, a suitable vacant unit was found in the market town of Trowbridge in the Castle Shopping Centre.
After a few months frantic work they’ve managed to open in time for the Easter build up, and have timed their first promotion leaflet to go with it, covering both stores on one leaflet with an increased circulation.

They “glitzed up” the store opening of newly christened ‘Mainlys of Trowbridge Mica Hardware’ by having the Town Crier announce the store officially open, they also announced the occasion in an advert in the local paper and invited the local press to be present at the opening.

Clare updated us on their first week,

“We opened on Monday, with a good response from the local people”. She added that this
response is not just in good humour, but in the till “takings are good and have increased every day, so we are very pleased that allour hardwork (well mainly Colin’s!) has paid off.

The new store, pictured here, has all the key departments for a strong DIY store, Hardware, Tools, Power Tools, Gardening, Housewares, Decorating, Plumbing & Electrical.

RDM Robin was full of praise for the Henrich’s and their new store “It looks great, we’ve maximised the store layout to generate most revenue, got a great fascia on the front and filled it with some great products from Mica suppliers, thanks also to those who’ve supported us with stands, PoS etc”.

Mica DIY CEO Steve Ball added, “The news of a second ‘from scratch’ new Mica store in the last six months (following Denham Mica DIY in October) is great news for not only Colin & Clare personally, who I congratulate for their entrepreneurial spirit, but also for Mica, displaying growth both inwardly and externally to the market and suppliers. It is also good news for the sector as a whole. Having a vehicle for setting up new stores, based on Mica’s strengths of Marketing, Buying & Retail Development is showing the potential of the independent sector.”
