Article : £700+ Raised for Hardware Industry Charity

Date: Monday 23rd April, 2012

The Mica Gala Dinner, held last month at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Bristol, was tasked with raising money for the Rainy Day Trust, the hardware industries charity.

Miss Jenni Briscoe, press reporter representing DIYweek, was a special guest at the dinner and gave an introduction to the work the Rainy Day Trust does (supporting past and present workers in the trade through tough times) as well as organising a raffle, with prizes donated by Mica and Main Event Sponsor Akzo Nobel.

Geoff Winstanley of RoDo Group won the first prize and opted for the bottle of Bubbly, while Lynn Brooks of Oyster Creative took the runners up prize of a giant fluffy Dulux dog. In total attendee’s raised a, “whopping £571.95”. Taking Gift Aid tax relief into account, the total of the donation value should be over £700.

Diane Stevens general secretary for the RDT has written a letter thanking everyone who donated for contributing to the cause.
Rainy Day Trust President Mr. Colin Petty said the sum raised was extremely welcome – and quite startling too. “We have a pretty good idea of the average donation per head at events like this... my expectations would have been quite a bit lower than this. Clearly there’s a considerable spirit of generosity among Mica members and suppliers!”

Thanks to everyone who supported the trust by donating on the night.
