Article : Mica Announce Charity Partnership

Date: Wednesday 4th June, 2014

Mica DIY are pleased to reveal that their long-running association with popular charity ‘The Rainy Day Trust’ is to become official today with the announcement that Mica will become a formal partner of the trust.

For many years, Mica and its independent stores have worked alongside and supported the cause of The Rainy Day Trust, recognising the valuable hard work and commitment that they provide to the people of the DIY sector.

Since 1843, the ‘RDT’ have been a helping hand to the DIY, builder’s merchant and related industries, assisting those who have recently fallen on hard times. They offer one off grants and annual pensions to help support the more unfortunate and build them up until they’re back on their feet.

Following Mica’s successful fundraising event at their annual ‘Mica Exchange’ conference in March, which raised nearly £1000, Mica Members decided that the time was right to make this continued support official by making them their preferred charity partner.

Speaking at the announcement of the new partnership, Mica CEO Mr. Steve Ball said:

“Supporting those in the industry who are struggling is very much in line with the co-operative values of the Mica group and I’m sure I speak for all our members when I say that we’re proud to be associated with such a worthwhile charity.”

One such member, Mr. Robert Evans, Mica Director and owner of Nibletts Mica Hardware in Builth Wells, Powys, added:

“Our store is a proud supporter of the Rainy Day Trust, and we’ve had a collection box on the counter for many years. We collect a lot of money from it especially since we (in Wales) now have to levy 5p for a carrier bag.”

Mica looks forward to a long and supportive partnership with the Rainy Day Trust.
