Article : St George Visits Kennedy’s Mica

Date: Monday 30th June, 2014

The Rubery St George’s Society is a newly formed organisation whose primary purpose is to celebrate England’s patron saint’s day on the 23rd April. Initially they have three aims:
1. To increase people’s awareness and knowledge of the story of St George
2. To invite local traders to participate in a window dressing competition
3. To connect local shoppers with Ruberya town shops
The whole idea was to unite the local traders with a common theme, they were very enthusiastic about the event, and many shops took part on the 23rd and the following weekend.

Just three of many fantastic St George themed posters displayed at Kennedy’s Mica Hardware.

Our roving reporter, Robin Page, visited John at Kennedy’s during this time and was overwhelmed with his efforts in promoting his store as a Mica member and being a part of the local community. Local schools got involved with their pupil’s painting St Georges Day themed posters, the best of which John displayed in his shop windows alongside the usual promotional posters.
It was a nice touch that not only put a smile on a child’s face, but also helped raise community spirit.
