Article : Mica announces renewed partnership with Spring Fair, as DIY & Home Improvement Hall is expanded for 2018
Date: Monday 22nd January, 2018
Mica will again be partnering Spring Fair through it’s DIY & Home Improvement Hall of the UK’s leading home and gift event.
After a hugely successful launch at this year’s show in February, which attracted 58,000 visitors (of which over 3,500 are specifically interested in DIY and garden suppliers) the sector will be magnified to cater for the increased demand from the industry’s leading businesses with an impressive line-up of brands set to attend.
The sector itself continues to grow with consumers opting to redecorate their homes rather than relocating to save on capital. According to AMA Research, the UK home improvement market was worth £7.2 billion by value in 2015, displaying an annual increase of 4%. This trend has seen householders – a group that is displaying a growing decline in DIY skills – investing in larger-scale improvements by employing builders and craftsman to fill in the gaps in their knowledge. As such, the DIY sector at Spring Fair – now the destination of choice for the industry – will be a crucial platform where UK and international retailers will be able to source the latest home improvement products.
The 2017 edition of Spring Fair attracted visitors representing the entire retail industry and all the major players – from large multiples to smaller independent stores. The addition of a specific area to source home improvement products attracted the most diverse audience in the show’s history. Spring Fair’s research shows that 88% of visitors say they attend to source from new brands, presenting a great opportunity for all suppliers at the show.
Commenting on the news on behalf of Mica, Chief Executive Michael Ball said: “We had an excellent first year at Spring Fair in 2017, signing up new Independent Retailers and meeting new potential suppliers. We believe as a group that the show has potential to be a great meeting point event for all independent DIY, home improvement retailers in these changing times. The show is already a great wider window on the home and gift marketplaces, and the addition of DIY and Home Improvement is a natural fit.”
David Hibbert, joint MD, Stax Trade Centres added: “With the addition of the DIY and Home Improvement Hall at Spring Fair in 2017, we were keen to fly the Stax flag right from the outset. It was a great first year, resulting in new customers and new contacts. We’ve built Stax on the back of the DIY sector, and recently we’ve experienced a hike in retailers stocking up on extra hardware products as more consumers opt to undertake their own DIY projects at home. Spring Fair has been a great platform to showcase how Stax can
help retailers expand their offering in the hardware sector as demand in the market grows.”
In addition to Mica and Stax, many of the industry’s other leading brands have also already confirmed their presence, including AkzoNobel, BIRA Direct, DK Tools, EPE International, PlastiKote, RK Wholesale, Nexus Industries Ltd, National Abrasives Ltd, J Newsome Tools and Whatmore UK, whilst A. Perry & Co., Mark-up Tools Limited, Rolson Tools and V-Tac Exports are just some of the newcomers that have signed up for Spring Fair 2018.
Nick Davison, portfolio director of Spring Fair, said: “We were delighted with the industry’s response to us launching the DIY & Home Improvement sector at Spring Fair and now we’ve dedicated more space to the sector we look forward to fitting in new exhibitors alongside those who have rebooked. With the economy remaining uncertain many people will continue to invest in DIY so this area of the show is hugely important to retailers looking to capitalise on that trend and we look forward to a bigger and better show.”
Spring Fair 2018 will take place at Birmingham’s NEC from 4-8 February 2018. For more information about exhibiting, please visit Springfair.com
