Article : Death of Our Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II
Date: Friday 9th September, 2022
Updated 14/09/2022
The Mica Co-operative, Member retailers and staff offer their condolences to the Royal Family on the death of Her Majesty the Queen on Thursday 8th September 2022.
We share in the nations grief at the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, a remarkable monarch who inspired the nation through many difficult periods in our history, and was a rock the nation had come to almost believe would always be there.
During her speech at the height of covid she gave comfort to so many, evoking once more the words she had spoken to the children of the Empire and also those of Vera Lynn during World War II:
“Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know, deep down, that it is the right thing to do.”
She added: “We should take comfort that, while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.”
These words gave comfort and reassurance to so many in our most recent darkest hour, including so many who were lonely and unable to see loved ones.
Many in the United Kingdom and beyond view her as a matriach they either never had, or replaced one they had lost and also took comfort in that.
Millions through the years have also had personal encounters with her; almost always positive; and if not many of us recall fondly television encounters as the monarchy modernised, such as the Paddington Bear scene for the Platinum Jubilee, or the 007 scene for the London 2012 Olympics, with fondness.
Whilst living out a life of undoubted privilige, she carried out the lifetime of devoted service to the nation promised at the time of her coronation, executing her last duty only the day before her death, accepting the new prime ministers request to form a government.
The nation has lost another of its greatest generation, the last monarch in the world to serve in World War II, and Mica wishes Her Majesty peace, rejoined with her husband Philip after a lifetime of unexpected service.
Update - The Mica offices will close for the Queen’s funeral on Monday 19th September 2022, which is to be a bank holiday. Many Mica stores will also be closed, please check with your local store before travelling.
